Water Heater Leaking

Water Heater Leaking….Does it Need to Be Replaced?

VIDEO TRANSCRIPTION

Today I just want to show you how you can find out if your leaking water heater is fatal or not.

So, if you come down to your laundry room and you see some water coming out from underneath your water heater, that usually means that either your inner water heater tank is leaking, or, this is what I want to show you quick, there’s only a few spots that a water heater can leak from.

There’s the pressure relief valve right here, it usually has this little lever that you can pull (you don’t want to pull that), and this directional pipe that goes down.

So just reach your finger on the bottom here, and feel if that’s wet. If it’s not wet, then you know it’s not leaking from this thing.

Then, you’ve got the drain valve right here.

Sometimes it will have a spigot; this one doesn’t have a spigot on it.

Just reach your finger in there and feel if that’s wet. If that’s wet, you may need to replace it, or sometimes it might be as easy as just taking a flat head screwdriver here, or if you have a spigot, just tighten that really tight and that might stop the leak right there.

And another spot it could leak from is in the joints right here where it comes into the water heater on either side, or sometimes it might be leaking from the inner tank from the top.

So if it’s not the joints but it’s almost like it’s bubbling up from the bottom, that means you have a leaking inner tank.

So if you tried all those spots and they’re all dry, you can open and take this front cover off, and just feel inside.

If the insulation inside is wet, which this one kind of is, then there’s like a ninety-nine percent chance that your inner tank is leaking, and if your inner tank is leaking, that is not reparable.

You will need to get a new water heater. So there you have it. That’s how you can tell if your leaking water heater is ready to go, or if it’s fixable. And a question for the audience:

If you had any problems with water heaters, or if you have any tricks or how you fix them, that you would like to share with everybody else, maybe it’ll save somebody’s day.

Please let us know in the comments below. We would love to hear from you. Thank you so much for watching and we’ll see you next time.
